J. Graves Theus, Jr. is a fourth generation Louisiana lawyer with deep roots in the community. His practice focuses on business/estate planning and litigation.  He received an LL.M. in Tax from Boston University School of Law in 1997, after graduating, cu​m laude, from Gonzaga University School of Law in 1996.  He is AV® PreeminentTM Peer Review Rated in Martindale-Hubbell with over twenty years of experience helping individuals and businesses with complex estate and business matters.



As Office Administrator of Theus Law Offices, Anna Theus maintains all aspects of office services, including operations and procedures, client accounts and case files, attorney’s professional requirements and schedules, and support staff supervision.  Anna also provides paralegal support to our legal team and office staff.

Anna earned her B.A. in English and Creative Writing from Middlebury College, Middlebury, Vermont, in 1990, and her Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Harvard Graduate School of Education, Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1997.

Prior to joining Theus Law Offices, Anna was director of St. James Episcopal Day School from 2004-2013.  Anna has also worked with the Rapides Child Advocacy Center as a child interviewer and taught Early Childhood Education courses as an Adjunct Professor at Louisiana State University at Alexandria.

Anna is originally from Washington, D.C. and New Jersey, and has lived in Alexandria for 17 years.  She and her husband, attorney Graves Theus, have four children, Susannah, James, Eliza and Cullen.  When she’s not at work, Anna enjoys reading and running.


With over twenty years of experience, Jaime Maxey is Theus Law Offices’ lead paralegal.  Jaime provides support to our legal team as well as our office staff.  Her legal experience includes Insurance defense, Family Law, Real Estate Law, and Estate and Probate matters.

Jaime attended Louisiana College and Louisiana State University at Alexandria.

Jaime is originally from Natchitoches, Louisiana and has lived in the Alexandria area for over sixteen years.  She has two daughters, Kelsey and Hannah.  Outside of work, Jaime enjoys a good book and DIY projects around the house.

Courtney J. Tate is Senior Counsel in the firm’s Lafayette, LA office. Mr. Tate earned a Bachelor of Science in Finance in 2001 from Louisiana State University where he graduated as an Honors Program Graduate with Summa Cum Laude Honors. Mr. Tate earned his Juris Doctor and a Bachelor of Civil Law Studies in 2005 from Paul M. Hebert Law Center, Louisiana State University. Mr. Tate furthered his knowledge of tax law and estate planning by earning an LL.M., Master of Laws in Taxation, from Boston University Law School in 2006.

Mr. Tate’s practice focuses on all areas of tax law with an emphasis in estate planning and asset protection where he represents clients in wills, trusts, successions, estate administration, and federal tax matters. Mr. Tate also has considerable experience handling a diverse array of transactional matters, including business entity formation and structuring, commercial real estate transactions, business planning, and other matters that have material tax consequences and ramifications. Mr. Tate advises charitable and other non-profit organizations on issues of formation, application for exemption to the IRS, and other compliance issues. He also serves as legal counsel for D.R.E.A.M.S. Foundation of Acadiana, a special needs non-profit organization.

Mr. Tate is a member of various professional organizations, including the Lafayette Parish Bar Association and the Louisiana State Bar Association.

Mr. Tate grew up in Mamou, Louisiana and has made Lafayette, Louisiana his home for the past 13 years.
